I bought this after seeing how Schafer writes about houses holding memory, and the chapter on celebrating small moments honestly changed how I think about my own living room. The photography is gorgeous without feeling staged.

The photos of the rooms anchored in a specific sense of place are what sold me — I keep flipping back to the chapter on timeless charm for ideas. It's less a coffee table flex and more a quiet argument for designing around memory.

I bought this after renting for years, and the chapter on making a house feel anchored in memory really hit home. Schafer writes about timeless charm without ever getting preachy, and the photography of the smaller, lived-in rooms is the kind I keep flipping back to.
