I picked this up before a trip to the East Coast and ended up reading it in two sittings. The chapters on the early resort community and the railroad that made it reachable are packed with detail without ever feeling dry.

Flagler's railroad and the resorts that followed make for a surprisingly gripping read, and the archival photos of the early hotels are worth the price alone. I expected a dry local history and got something I finished in two sittings.

The old photos of the resorts going up along the Florida coast are worth it alone. I expected a dry history of the railroad development, but it reads like a story about one man's stubborn vision.
