I bought this after a trip to Marrakech and it captured the feeling of the city perfectly. The stories about Churchill and Saint Laurent staying there gave the place so much more depth than my guidebook did.

The photos alone are worth it, especially the spreads on the villas and courtyards. I've read plenty of coffee-table books that skimp on the writing, but the essays on Churchill and the Getty years actually held my attention.

I bought this before a trip and ended up reading it cover to cover twice. The sections on Churchill and Mick Jagger wandering the same streets really stuck with me, and the writing moves fast without feeling like a guidebook.
