I've been to Bali twice and this book still showed me corners of the island I missed. The chapters on surf spots and the quieter temple towns are what I keep flipping back to.

I picked this up before a two-week trip and the sections on the different regions gave me a much better sense of where to actually base myself. The writing on the surf breaks and the quieter inland areas is genuinely useful, not just pretty filler.

The chapters on bamboo architecture alone were worth it—I had no idea how much engineering goes into those open-air structures. Reading this before my trip made the temples and rice terraces feel less like a checklist and more like places I actually understood.
