Author Dora Lardelli takes the reader on a journey through Chanel and Hitchcock’s favorite haunts and the hidden parties at Badrutt’s Palace where royalty goes to play, without forgetting the natural beauty, village charm and architectural mastery that define it. St. Moritz also takes readers on a majestic tour of its special events, from Winter Olympics to the annual Snow Polo World Cup, as well as the summertime Jazz Festival and the British Classic Car Meeting. In St. Moritz creatives and royals share skiwassers slope-side on the sheepskin benches of El Paradiso, pause to sip champagne on long strolls around its frozen, crystalline lake and enjoy coffee and confections at the centuries old Hanselmann. St. Moritz has never lost its inimitable appeal, and will continue to reign as an elegant hideaway for all those who have come to call it a home away from home.

I picked this up before a trip and the chapters on the hidden parties at Badrutt's Palace gave me such a sense of the era. Lardelli's writing moves easily between the glamour and the natural landscape, which I didn't expect from a coffee-table book.

John ★★★★★

The photos of Badrutt's Palace in winter are worth it alone. I didn't expect the section on the hidden royal parties to be this detailed, but Lardelli clearly did her homework. It's sitting on my coffee table now and guests keep picking it up.

The chapters on Chanel and Hitchcock's haunts were the draw for me, and they deliver. Only gripe is that the text leans a bit dry in places, but as a coffee-table book the photos carry it.
